What Does Leucine Do?

Leucine slows muscle degradation by helping in the creation of muscle proteins. Leucine is used by the liver, body fat, and muscle to increase energy and endurance. Leucine also plays an important role in the synthesis of haemoglobin. Leucine helps maintain proper blood sugar and plays a role in human growth hormone synthesis.

What are the benefits of Leucine?

Leucine is the strongest of the three branched chained amino acids that are used for breaking down nutrients that have been consumed. Leucine also supplies your muscles with a balance of nitrogen, which is used to keep the tissue fully recovered. Leucine helps your body by keeping the muscle glycogen for muscle contraction balanced, and then even supplies you with energy that is needed for training and heavy stress that is placed on your muscles.

When should I use Leucine?

Leucine is a great addition to any serious fitness enthusiast who trains routinely. However, Leucine may not be so good for those that only workout only a couple days a week. Leucine is involved in breaking down protein, but if you are not training very often then there is no reason to have a high protein intake. The increase in leucine levels will be wasted.

What happens if I don’t get enough Leucine?

If you suffer from a leucine deficiency, your body will not be able to make use of the protein that you feed it – no matter how much protein you consume. Unless you have enough leucine, the money you spend on quality food and dietary supplements will be wasted.

Who needs Leucine?

Leucine is an essential amino acid. Your body cannot make leucine. Everyone needs leucine to maintain basic health. Leucine deficiency can result in muscle wasting, depression, low energy levels, muscle weakness, and blood sugar irregularities like hypoglycaemia.
